BORN ON FEBRUARY 7th

 LAURA INGALLS WILDER was  born in 1867, in Pepin, Wisconsin. She was an author who wrote The Little House Series based on her childhood. Her first book Little House in the Big Woods    is about this time near Pepin.  There is a log cabin there that commemorates that time in her life.  It’s called the Little House Wayside.  (d. 1957)

 HARRY SINCLAIR LEWIS  was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota in the year 1885.  Lewis was a novelist, playwright and a short story writer.  He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1930, “for his vigorous and graphic art of description and his ability to create with wit and humor, new types of characters.”  Some of his books were Main Street (1920),  Babbitt (1922), Arrowsmith (1925), (nominated for four Academy Awards)  and Elmer Gantry (1927).   (earned Burt Lancaster a Best Actor Oscar). (d. 1951)

 CLARENCE LINDEN “BUSTER” CRABBE II  was born in 1908 in Oakland, California.  He was an athlete and an actor who starred in a number of films in the 1930s-1940s. Crabbe  is the only actor who’s played Tarzan, Flash Gordon, AND  Buck Rogers – the most popular comic strip heroes of the 1930s.   He was also an excellent swimmer and participated in two Olympic Games; in 1928 where he won a bronze medal for the 1,500 meter free style, and in 1932 where he won a gold medal for the 400 meter freestyle.  During his time attending the University of Southern California he was their first All-American swimmer in 1931, and in 1931 the NCAA freestyle titlist.  During the 1950s-1960s he became a stockbroker and businessman.  He owned a swimming pool building company in Southern California in his later years.  (d. 1983)

 TROYAL GARTH BROOKS  was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the year 1962.  He is a country music artist.  His first album that was released in 1989 went to #2 on the U.S. country album Chart and to #13 on the Billboard 200 pop album chart.   He integrated rock elements into his country music which has been very popular.  Brooks has enjoyed a most successful musical career, breaking many records in both sales and concert attendance during the 1990s.  He is the best-selling solo album artist in the U.S. of all time.  (overall second to the Beatles), with 128 million sold.  Six albums achieved diamond status; No Fences, Ropin the Wind, The Hits, Sevens, and Double Live.   

 JAMES TODD SPADER  actor, was born in 1960, in Boston, Massachusetts.  He is best known for his roles in movies such as Pretty in Pink, Sex,Lies, and Videotape, Mannequin, Crash, Stargate, and Secretary.  He has also played Alan Shore on the TV series The Practice and Boston Legal. 

Music rivalries have been around since the phenomenon of music videos and MTV. Whether it be because some talents get big at the same time or some friends come from completely different coasts, musical feuds can be controversial, good press, or in some cases, deadly. Some rivalries were false claims by the media while others were simply marketing tactics and reputation control. In the words of Slim Shady himself..

2. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera: Both began their careers as a Mouseketeer on The Mickey Mouse Club, both got super famous in the mid-90’s, and both singers have alarmed the media with controversy and sex appeal.

3. Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan: Both stars are recognized as Disney-film actresses, both make music that is considered “throwaway pop,” and both got famous at the same time. Oh yeah, both of these ladies also dated Aaron Carter, nice.

4. Moby and Eminem: Well, they are both extremely popular white musicians, they both have a funny look about them, and they both think the other is obsessed them.

5. Guns n’ Roses and Poison: Both bands got major press in the 1980’s, all band members have long, frizzy hairdos, and both play intoxicating mixes of hard rock and roll.

6. Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls: This is probably the most explosive not to mention bloodiest fued in music and hip hop history. These guys used to be friends but they are both hard up gangsters, they’re from opposite coasts, and both leave behind a legacy of fame crushed by violence.

Maine, a northeastern state in the United States of America, is home to a number of famous and remarkable people. Among these famous people are writer Stephen King, actress Liv Tyler and songwriter Dan Fogelberg.

Dan Fogelberg

The late Daniel Fogelberg was born in Peoria, Illinois, but lived in Deer Isle in Maine until his death on December 15, 2007. Dan Fogelberg is known for his classic songs like Leader of the Band, whose lyrics talk about a son’s appreciation of his father’s training him both in the family and in music.

Dan Fogelberg was born on August 31, 1951 to parents of musical backgrounds. His father, Lawrence Peter Fogelberg, was a high school band director for Peoria Woodruff and Perkin High Schools. His mother, Margaret Young Fogelberg, was a classic pianist.

As a child, Dan Fogelberg was a self-taught pianist and slide guitarist. When he reached the age of 14, he joined a Beatles cover band called The Clan. 2 years later, he would join another cover band, The Coachmen. As part of The Coachmen, Fogelberg released two singles entitled “Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget” and “Don’t Want to Lose Her.” By the 1980s, he was part of Frankie and the Aliens, who occasionally covered songs by Cream and Muddy Waters.

Fogelberg’s solo effort was not without failures, despite the success of later releases. His 1971 debut album was not received warmly, but in 1974 he bounced back with his second album “Souvenirs” which helped make him an instant hit. After Souvenirs, he released several other successful albums up until the 1980s.

In 2002, Fogelberg was one of 10 people inducted into the Performers Hall of Fame at the Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

Fogelberg found out he was afflicted with prostrate cancer at an advanced stage after an examination in May 2004. Although it was too late to eliminate the cancer, it was stopped from spreading through therapy. After three years, he died of prostrate cancer with his wife by his side.

Stephen King

A successful writer of horror fiction novels, Stephen King is a man born and continuing to live in Maine. He was born on September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine, just after World War 2. King was raised by his mother after his father Donald Edwin King left them in 1949.

People thought King’s apparent witnessing of a friend’s death under the tracks of a train was the catalyst for the dark nature of his novels. However, King dismisses this – he doesn’t remember the event – and says the cover art of an H.P. Lovecraft short story collection (a monster within a cavern found under a tombstone) sparked the light bulb in his head for the type of stories he wanted to write.

King’s first successful novel was Carrie, which was released on Mother’s Day in 1973. Published by Double Day, Carrie is the story of a girl with psychic powers. It earned King US$400,000, with US$200,000 of the figure going to Double Day.

The success of Carrie earned King a positive reputation. All his other novels were commercial successes and were adapted into films. Two of these novels were Pet Sematary and The Green Mile, with the latter made into a film starring award-winning actor Tom Hanks.

Liv Tyler

Liv Tyler is famous in the public eye for her portrayals as Bruce Willis’ daughter in the science-fiction motion picture Armageddon, the elf Arwen in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy and for being the real-life daughter of Aerosmith’s vocalist Steven Tyler.

Although she was born and continues to live in New York City, Liv Tyler spent part of her childhood in Portland, Maine (http://www.topmainefsbo.com/) and attended three schools in the area. These schools are, namely, Congressional School of Virginia, Breakwater Elementary and Waynflete. At the age of 12, she moved back to New York City.

Ms. Tyler was originally surnamed Rundgren, as she was brought up to believe that Todd Rundgren was her biological after. According to her mother, Bebe Buell, she chose to hide Steven Tyler’s paternity because the Aerosmith frontman had a major drug abuse problem when Liv was born.

After discovering the secret, Liv then changed her surname to Tyler but keeping the Rundgren name as a middle name. She even appeared in the video of Aerosmith’s song “Crazy”. It could also be remembered that her father’s band wrote several songs featured in the soundtrack of Armageddon, her most successful movie next to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

In the top spot for this list was George Bush, which can refer to either the 41st or 43rd President of the United States.  However, the name George Bush was more than twice as popular as George Washington, so at least one of them would take the number one spot.

I compiled this list by searching for each of the Georges on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.

We know by simply looking around that sunglasses are a pop culture phenomenon. Have you ever stopped to wonder how they became this way? Humans seem to have an obsession with sunglasses as more than protection for their eyes. Sunglasses make a statement about the face they’re sitting on, and can add much needed style to an ensemble. One has to wonder how sunglasses came to be what they are today.

Sunglasses have been worn and made infamous throughout the years by a variety of icons and legends. Some of these iconic names have even been given to their chosen signature style. Former First Lady and American Royalty Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had a particular favorite style of sunglasses. This oversized look was coined as “Onassis Glasses” or “The Jackie O” and will probably never be known by any other name.

Sir Elton John has paraded his courageous fashions on stage for the past four decades. Known for his amazing way with Ivory keys, and his crazy fashion statements, Elton John has inspired stylistic insanity with his share of peculiar eyewear. He has been seen on stage wearing some of the most imaginative and artistic sunglasses the world has ever known.

However wacky the designs have been, Sir Elton John’s trademark is not necessarily in the frames of the sunglasses he wore. Lenses of all different shades have been this icon’s signature style. Whether yellow, blue or purple, Sir Elton seems to like the way the world looks through these colorful shades.

James Dean helped make one particular style of sunglasses popular. The 1950′s movie star could often be seen wearing the style known as the Wayfarer. This simple design of sunglasses made famous by the “Rebel Without a Cause” is proof that even the most uncomplicated ideas can take off with a little bit of fame behind them.

Later, James Belushi and Dan Aykroyd put their own spin on the retro sunglasses. The Blue Brothers movie of 1980 saw the two sporting the Wayfarer style in a more modern, sleek, black look. The glasses came back in style briefly and made other appearances on the screen, such as Risky Business. No girl can forget a young Tom Cruise in underwear, a dress shirt and his Wayfarers doing a sideways sock-slide to “Old Time Rock and Roll”.

Musicians are known for setting style trends, including sunglasses. In reality, the reason so many musicians began wearing sunglasses while they performed is that the stage lights can be blinding. Additionally, during the 1960′s and 1970′s, musicians like John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne and Janice Joplin were said to have worn the sunglasses all the time as a way of disguising mysteriously bloodshot eyes. This theory has not been proven, so we can all assume they wore them because they looked cool.

John Lennon and Ozzy Osbourne helped bring the Teashades into popular culture. Other musicians such as Mick Jagger and Janice Joplin favored this style. This style of sunglasses is still mostly associated with former Beatle John Lennon. This is perhaps because not only were they his preferred shape for sunglasses, but his corrective lenses were this shape as well.

Movie and rock stars are not the only ones that have made sunglasses what they are today. The United States Military has had a hand in coining what is possibly the most famous sunglasses style in history. In the 1930′s, Ray Ban designed sunglasses that were sold to the U.S. Military to be issued to pilots. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Aviators are born. This is quite possibly the strangest fashion trend setter yet: the United States Government!

Another example of the average Joe popularizing a fashion trend is in the case of the “cop shades” or Mirror Shades. Police officers favored this design and it quickly made its place in pop culture trivia books everywhere. A popular theory for this preference is that police officers like the intimidating vibe they gave off. It is somewhat unnerving to look into a one-way mirrored pair of sunglasses and not know the expression of the person looking back.

Many people have played a part in making sunglasses the pop culture icon they are today. You don’t have to be a movie star, musician, or government official to start a fashion trend. Pick up a pair of sunglasses that looks good on you, even if they have been out of style since the Reagan Administration. Wear them with pride; you never know when it might catch on!

A. What a great idea! What better place for a movie quiz than a movie review site. When you are thinking about what type of movie quiz to develop, try to think a bit outside of the box. While the temptation is strong to take the easy way out by asking the “no brainer” questions like “Which movie won best Picture in 2003?”, you’re likely to find that you won’t draw very many quiz participants.

A good movie quiz is challenging in the same way that a good crossword puzzle is. Opt for questions that will make people think hard, or actually have to search the Internet for the answer. For example, how many people would know the answer to this question off the top of their head?

“What famous rock star was paid to come and watch the Beatles perform when he was a young boy?”

The answer? I’m not going to tell you. But I’ll tell you this, you can find out on the Internet.

Now if you can come up with killer movie quiz questions like that one, and maybe offer a cash prize to each month’s winner (be sure to change the questions each month), then your movie review site is going to get a great reputation as a butt-kicking movie quiz site as well.

I guess you could consider having a different movie quiz for different skill levels. You could take it all the way down to simple kid’s movie quiz for the youngsters in your audience. Be careful about collecting names and addresses of children 13 and younger though, th U.S. Government frowns on that practice even if it’s for something as innocent as a movie quiz.

I hope that I’ve given you a start in the right direction. If you put some thought into it, I’m sure you’ll come up with a movie quiz that could win an Oscar!

The guy named John Lennon, who has very strong inspiration from the rock and roll music of Elvis Presley, created the Beatles. John Lennon and his friends had formed up the music band named Quarry Men in the year 1957. At the end of the year 1942, John met Paul McCartney, the guy from Liverpool, and persuaded him to join the band after he finished seeing John’s performance.

Afterwards, in the year 1943, The Paul’s schoolmate joined the band on leading guitar and also changed the name of the band to Johnny and the Moondog. In early 60′s, Cliff who was the schoolmate of John Lennon, joined the band on bass guitar despite the fact that he had no knowledge about music and notes. Tommy Moor was replacing Pete Best for drums and the band used the name Silver Beetles. Soon after, the name of the band was changed again from Silver Beetles to The Beatles.

After that, the new Beatle music band had the first concert to welcome new member, Pete. In December 1943, Harrison was arrested by German police and sent him back to his hometown because he was too young and after him, the guys from Liverpool were also sent back to their home country.

In the year 1960, the Beatles started their concert performance again in Cavern Club in Liverpool, and this place was the beginning of their success story. They had almost 300 performances at this place and then they decided to go back to German in April 1961. At this time, one of the band members decided to leave the band to be full time artist and they became four instead of five.

Paul compulsorily had to play bass guitar as well. After that, the Beatles performed concerts in Liverpool many times until 9 November 1961, Brian, the owner of music record, came to see their concert. Brian’s customers had asked him for “Bonnie” which is the song that The Beatles had made the record in Germany few months ago. Two months later, Brian became the first band manager for The Beatles who changed the look of all members of the band including their hairs

–Hooters Buffalo Chicken Wings–

> Chicken Wings

10 chicken wing pieces

Vegetable oil (for frying)

1/4 cup butter

1/4 teaspoon ground pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/4 teaspoon salt

> Hooter’s Chicken Wing Hot Sauce

1 1/2 cup Butter (softened)

1/2 cup Tabasco Sauce

2 tablespoons Tabasco Sauce

3 tablespoons Brown Sugar

3/4 teaspoon Paprika

3/4 teaspoon Salt

1 tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar

3/8 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

2 tablespoons Chili Sauce

> On the side:

Hooters Ranch Dressing or Bleu Cheese Dressing…

Celery sticks

> Preparation:

Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees F. You want just enough oil to cover the wings entirely – an inch or so deep at least.

Combine the butter, hot sauce, ground pepper and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until the butter is melted and the ingredients well-blended.

Combine the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper and salt in a small bowl.

If the wings are frozen, be sure to defrost and dry them. Put the wings into a large bowl and sprinkle the flour mixture over them, coating each wing evenly. Put the wings in the refrigerator for 60 to 90 minutes. (This will help the breading to stick to the wings when fried.)

Put all the wings into the hot oil and fry them for 10 to 15 minutes or until some parts of the wings begin to turn dark brown.

Remove the wings from the oil to a paper towel to drain. But don’t let them sit too long, because you want to serve the wings hot.

Quickly put the wings into a large bowl. Add the hot sauce and stir, coating all of the wings evenly. You could also use a large plastic container with a lid for this. Put all the wings inside the container, add the sauce, put on the lid, then shake. Serve with bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks on the side.

–Hooters Ranch Dressing–

1 cup mayonnaise

3/4 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup sour cream

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon dried thyme 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk until completely mixed. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

–Hooters Bleu Cheese Dressing–

1 cup regular mayonnaise

1 cup sour cream

6 oz blue cheese

1 Tablespoon apple cider or wine vinegar

1/ 2 teaspoon pepper (optional) 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (optional)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Crumble the blue cheese, and mix it all together.

Or try…

–Hooters Buffalo Shrimp–

> Buffalo Shrimp Sauce:

1/4 cup hot sauce

1/4 cup butter

1/8 teaspoon paprika

1 dash black pepper

1 dash garlic powder

Combine in a small saucepan over medium heat until butter is mixed through. Cover, and keep warm over low heat.

> Shrimp

12 uncooked large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup milk

1 cup all-purpose flour

Combine egg and milk in a small bowl. Place flour in a large zip-type bag. Coat six of the shrimp with egg mixture, then toss them in the bag of flour and shake well to coat.

Leave these shrimp in the bag, and repeat the process with the remaining shrimp. Make sure they are all well coated with flour. Refrigerate about 5 minutes while the deep fryer heats up to 375 F.

Deep fry for 8 to 10 minutes, until shrimp tails are dark brown. Remove, drain, and toss gently with Buffalo Sauce.

–Hooters Buffalo Chicken Sandwich–

boneless chicken breast

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp pepper

milk

1/4 cup hot sauce

2 tbsp butter

1/4 cup olive oil

fresh bread roll

leaf lettuce

onion

sliced tomato

bleu cheese dressing

Put boneless chicken breast to a plate. In a small bowl, add all-purpose flour, paprika, and pepper.

Mix them well. Pour milk in another bowl. Dip chicken in milk. Coat chicken in flour mix. Repeat the process.

Put coated chicken on a plate. Cover it, chill for half an hour. Medium heat the saucepan. Add hot sauce, and butter to the pan. Bring them to boil, stir. Set the pan aside.

Medium heat a pan. Add olive oil to the pan. Add coated chicken. Cook for 8 minutes, turning once.

Slice bread roll in half. Oven toast the halves. In a small bowl, coat chicken with sauce.

On a plate, arrange bread half in the bottom, then chicken, leaf lettuce, onion, tomato, bleu cheese dressing, and the other half of bread roll on the top.

Dig In and Enjoy!
